Otunge – the commander of the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti said in a meeting held in the capital that it was planned to start serious operations on the ground, according to the digital newspaper Haiti Libre.
Weeks ago, U.S. Ambassador Dennis Hankins also threatened the criminal gangs saying: “the gang members will have to choose between jail and the cemetery”.
Faced with this position of their adversaries, the criminals do not stop their violent acts, and maintain control of 14 communes in two departments and 80% of Port-au-Prince.
The population remains desperate, and the men under the command of Otunge from Kenya and the Haitian National Police are finding it impossible to exterminate the gang members.
So far, seven countries from Africa, Asia and the Caribbean have shown their willingness to provide men for the Multinational Security Support Mission, which will fight the gangs in Haiti.
Kenya -which offered to lead the operations-, Benin and Chad among the Africans; Bahamas, Jamaica and Barbados among the Caribbean countries, as well as Bangladesh and Suriname announced that they will send a group of security support mission.
