Insecurity continues to be the main concern for Chileans

Santiago de Chile, Aug 26 (Prensa Latina) A survey conducted in CHile shows that 70 percent of Chileans consider that the fight against crime should be the number one priority for the Government.

Based on the survey, which was carried out by the firm Plaza Pública Cadem, 32% of respondents think that the main authority to lead this work is the Ministry of the Interior, 27 percent a new Ministry of Security, and 22 percent the President of the Republic.

Regarding public order, 82 percent approve the management of the Carabineros, although only 30 consider that they are well-equipped.

This month, the Government announced the deployment of another 909 troops in the Metropolitan Region to reinforce the Streets Without Violence Plan. The agents will be located in 400 points of high influx of people, such as shopping centers, subway stations or public transport stops.

The program includes three phases: the first included the deployment of 616 police officers and 100 vehicles, who carry out patrols and inspections in areas with a higher probability of crimes such as robberies, drug trafficking and homicides. The second began on August 12th with the incorporation of 909 police officers, and the third in the last quarter of 2024 with another 144.

In total, the Metropolitan Region will have 1,669 new agents on the streets.

At the same time, the police for investigation works and the National Prosecutor’s Office are being reinforced.
