This was stated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on X social media as he participated in the call in Assosa town in this capital, a region known for its natural abundance, mineral wealth and fertile land.
Of the seedlings planted last year, 50 percent were focused on food security, soil conservation and combating land degradation, Ahmed said.
“As we move forward, we should continue planting in areas such as the Abay River watershed to support water conservation,” he concluded.
Separately, Government Communication Service revealed that about 234 million tree seedlings were planted nationwide so far under the ‘National Planting Day’ campaign.
Under the slogan ‘A nation plants, generation sustains’ the initiative will run from 06:00 to 18:00 (local time) which called on all sectors of society.
