On World Humanitarian Day, we recall and pay tribute to the humanitarian workers killed and injured around the world, Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), wrote on his X platform.
“There are too many in Gaza since the war started 10 months ago. At least 289 humanitarian workers, including 207 UNRWA team members and 885 health workers,” Lazzarini underscored.
Many died in the line of duty while providing assistance or medical care to the wounded and sick, he noted.
Lazzarini highlighted that more than 160 journalists and media workers were also killed “while reporting on the human impact of this devastating war and the constant violations of international law.”
The United Nations, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and several countries have repeatedly criticized the systematic attacks by the Israeli Army on schools, hospitals, shelters, and personnel working in Gaza to mitigate the impact of the conflagration, including international agencies, rescue workers, and doctors.
