Colombia reaffirms commitment to implement policies in key areas

Bogota, Aug 15 (Prensa Latina) Director of the Administrative Department of the Colombian Presidency, Laura Sarabia, expressed the Government's commitment to implement 10 key priorities, including Agrarian Reform and education, over the next two years.

While participating here at the UN Country Team’s annual retreat, the authority said that the main focus included the implementation of the Peace Agreement, educational improvement, educational infrastructure, Agrarian Reform, and the development of the agricultural sector.

Other issues to be prioritized, she said, will be the involvement of youth in productive activities, the promotion of the political strategy in Defense and Security, and the boosting of tourism as an engine for economic growth.

She also highlighted the importance of energy transition, as opposed to extractivist economies, by giving way to new technologies, as part of which fiber optics will be provided to the neediest communities in the country.

Sarabia affirmed that the current administration is assessing its achievements while establishing clear milestones and indicators for the next two years.

UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in the South American nation, Mireia Villar, remarked on the importance of the meeting, indicating that it will help define the priorities and strategies of support that the UN will provide to the Government in this period.

The meeting opened the Cooperation Framework Implementation for Sustainable Development 2024-2027, signed between Colombia and the United Nations last June.
