Brazil records 1,677 plane accidents since early 2024

Brasilia, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) Brazil has recorded 1,677 air accidents since early 2024, including private, commercial, agricultural, experimental, training, police and other flights, according to data cited today by the Metrópoles website.

The statistics from the Center for Research and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa), and quoted by Metrópoles, show that 42 of the more than 1,600 notifications were considered serious by the body ascribed to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB).

São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Pernambuco, Bahia and Minas Gerais were the states that registered most such events so far.

Sao Paulo, which on Friday witnessed the most devastating air crash in Brazil since 2007, is leading the list of air failures.

Out of the total figure, 381 cases were reported there, 218 more than in Rio de Janeiro.

The National Civil Aviation Agency considered that, putting aside cases that did not threaten the safety of flight operations, Brazil has accumulated 110 such occurrences since the beginning of the year, with 28 of them leaving 111 dead.

Accidents are events that leave injuries, fatalities or damage aircraft to the point of affecting their operation.

Disappearance cases, such as Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, went off radar in 2014 and was never found, also fall into the category.

Crash investigations of the aircraft ART-72, operated by VoePass company, which killed 62 people (58 passengers and four crew members) when crashing on August 9 in Sao Paulo, are still in the early stages.

Up to August 80 deaths related to air crashes had been registered.
