Winners of the 2024 Literature Awards announced in Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) The annual Salomé Ureña de Henríquez Poetry Award was awarded today to Dominican Sally Rodríguez for the work "Luz Breve", in an event in which the Ministry of Culture announced the six winners of the 2024 Literature Awards.

The writer Bruno Rosario Candelier recently expressed that “in the work of this excellent poet, born in Moca in 1957, the charm of the world flows with the aesthetic, interior and symbolic virtuality of an exemplary work.”

When announcing the winners, the director of Literary Management, Fari Rosario, said this is a way to consolidate and strengthen the literary tradition of the country.

The Pedro Henríquez Ureña Annual Essay Prize was awarded to Jochy Herrera for the work “Fiat Lux”, while the Manuel de Jesús Galván Novel Prize was awarded to Efraím Castillo for “Testosterone Split”.

As the winning work of the José Ramón López Annual Short Story Prize, the jury chose “Por ellas calles de Dios (Cuentos de mi Daddy)”, by Frank Disla Ortiz.

Likewise, the Cristóbal de Llerena Theatre Award was given to César Sánchez Beras, author of “Rabia y fervor”, and the Aurora Tavárez Belliard Children’s and Youth Literature Award was given to Virginia Read Escobal for “Miel de viejas”.

The event held at the Ramón Oviedo Gallery of the ministerial headquarters was presided over by the Vice Minister of Cultural Identity and Citizenship, Pastor De Moya, who was accompanied by the General Director of Books and Reading, Ángela Hernández, and Fari Rosario.

De Moya said that “this award constitutes one of the greatest contributions that the country can make to a writer, because it not only stimulates the creator, but it is also an act of validation”.
