Ecuadorean MPs reject Noboa’s stance against appearance of ministers (+Photo)

Quito, Aug 13 (Prensa Latina) Ecuadorean MPs rejected Tuesday the disposition of President Daniel Noboa, who ordered his ministers not to appear in the hearings called by the Legislative.

The announcement of the governmental measure was made earlier by the Vice Minister of Government Esteban Torres, who affirmed that by disposition of the Executive, the ministers will no longer attend appearances in the Legislative. “It is a matter of persecution, of harassment”, he said.

Vice Minister Torres mentioned that, in specific cases, Government functionaries “will go to the Assembly for technical issues”.

For independent legislator Jaime Guevara, Torres’ statements are due to electoral issues. “If they do their job, they have nothing to fear,” he underscored.

Meanwhile, lawmaker Otto Vera, of the Social Christian Party, highlighted that the disposition of the Government concerning ministers not appearing before the Assembly marks a splitting. “It is a very bad message for democracy,” he substantiated.

Likewise, the parliamentarian of the Citizen Revolution (RC) Leonardo Berrezueta stressed that the constitutional obligation of the legislature is to request information from ministers.

On the other side, Jorge Peñafiel of the Construye party noted that the incumbents do not belong to a political party, but are State authorities and must be accountable to the country.

The struggles between the Legislative and the Executive of Ecuador took place after the beginning of Noboa’s term, when there was an agreement in favor of governability between the ruling National Democratic Action party, the Citizen Revolution movement and the Social Christian Party.
