Israeli authorities fear a barrage of missiles from Iran, to which would be added the launch of rockets and drones from Lebanon and other areas of the Middle East.
In April, Iran launched more than 300 missiles and drones at Israel in retaliation for an attack on its consulate in Damascus, killing several high-ranking Iranian officials.
The Iranian authorities warned that the revenge would now be much greater and highlighted their right to self-defense in the face of continued Israeli aggression.
For their part, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his partners in power promised a painful response to any incursion, which threatens to trigger a full-scale Middle East conflict.
However, the Israeli press estimated that the expected attack will focus on military assets because no one wants a regional war.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated yesterday in a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz that Iran has the right to respond to Haniyeh’s murder. “We will never give in to pressure, sanctions or harassment,” the president warned.
Last night, Israeli Defense Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari stated that Israel is at its highest level of alert and ready to strike back.
