Vietnam-US relations enter a new, promising chapter

Hanoi, Aug 7 (Prensa Latina) Politburo member and Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)’s Central Committee, Nguyen Trong Nghia, assessed on Wednesday that the relations with the United States "have entered a new, positive, and promising chapter."

Trong Nghia’s remark came when he received US Ambassador to Vietnam, Marc Knapper, with whom he reviewed the achievements of bilateral cooperation, especially since the historic visit by late CPV General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to Washington in July 2015 and US President Joe Biden’s visit to Vietnam in September 2023.

Trong Nghia, who is also the head of the Propaganda and Education Commission of the CPV Central Committee, also praised the results of cooperation in trade and investment, culture, education, and people-to-people exchanges, and especially in science, technology, and innovation, which is considered a breakthrough in the two sides’ relations.

The senior party leader asked the United States to continue to help his country train high-quality human resources in the semiconductor industry and create favorable conditions for cooperation between universities, technological institutes, and commercial organizations.

Knapper, in turn, noted that the two countries’ ministries and sectors are collaborating to implement the Joint Statement on the Washington-Hanoi Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and expressed hope that areas with spaces for cooperation will continue to be pushed forward.

The two sides agreed that 2025 will be a significant year marking the 50th anniversary of Vietnam’s national reunification and 30 years of normalizing Vietnam-US relations.
