Foreign Minister Omar Paganini received the party leader of China, with which Uruguay signed in late 2013 a declaration of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Such step meant “a change of level in the bilateral relationship”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the South American country informed.
Among other issues, Paganini and Jianchao discussed the next meeting of the Mercosur-China Dialogue Mechanism, which will take place next week in this capital.
Uruguay, in its capacity as president pro tempore of Mercosur, is promoting negotiations between Mercosur and Beijing, and bilaterally wants to move towards the signing of a free trade agreement.
President Luis Lacalle Pou is scheduled to meet with the senior official of the CPC this day.
