More than 92,000 prisoners benefit from amnesty in Vietnam

Hanoi, Aug 2 (Prensa Latina) More than 92,000 prisoners benefited from the nine rounds of special amnesty in Vietnam since 2009, the deputy chief of the Presidential Office, Pham Thanh Ha, informed on Friday.

The information was released at a joint press conference with the deputy ministers of Public Security, General Le Quoc Hung; Foreign Affairs, General Ha Kim Ngoc, and the deputy chairman of the Supreme People’s Court, Nguyen Tri Tue, who announced President To Lam’s decision to grant this benefit in 2024.

Than Ha recalled that the special amnesty is one of the legal institutions stipulated in Article 88 of the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and is usually granted on the occasion of important events and festivities in the country.

He detailed that at the request of the Government, on July 30, the Vietnamese head of State signed the decision for 2024, on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the National Day (September 2) and the 70th anniversary of Hanoi Liberation Day (October 10).

This way, the consistent guidelines and policies of the Communist Party and the State of Vietnam in promoting and protecting human rights in a fair and equal manner for all citizens, including those who are sentenced to imprisonment, were fulfilled, Than Ha stressed.
