International debate on energy security proposed

Brussels, Aug 2 (Prensa Latina) The International Energy Agency (IEA) invited decision-makers worldwide, to examine global energy security challenges at a forum scheduled for the second quarter of 2025.

According to the invitation, the “International Summit on the Future of Energy Security” will be held in London, organized by the Government of the United Kingdom.

According to the IEA, the risks on oil and natural gas availability show no signs of abating. At the same time, new threats have emerged that could hinder energy transitions and undermine the resilience of energy systems.

According to the announcement, the forum in London will examine the geopolitical, technological, and economic factors affecting energy security on a national and international scale. It will also provide an opportunity to review trends redefining global energy security, including changes in demand; the adoption of clean and efficient energy solutions; the availability of essential minerals and metals for the sector; and the allocation of investments to move away from fossil fuels, the release said.

The crisis has been a sobering reminder to countries of the importance of energy security and its implications for economies, IEA executive director Fatih Birol said in the invitation text.

Based in Paris, France, the IEA was created by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and acts as an energy policy advisor to the bloc’s member states.
