Agreement between drug agencies from Cuba and Angola make progress

Luanda, Jul 31 (Prensa Latina) The Secretary of State for Public Health, Carlos Alberto Pinto, said on Wednesday that the agreement between the drug regulatory agencies of Angola and Cuba is making progress at the usual pace in this kind of deal.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Pinto commented that both parties met on several occasions and the work continues.

On August 21, 2023, during Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel’s visit, the Center for State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices of Cuba (CECMED) and the Angolan Regulatory Agency for Medicines and Health Technologies (ARMED) penned a Memorandum of Understanding.

The legal instrument would allow professionals from Angola to participate in training programs with CECMED, in addition to exchanging views to sharing new techniques and technologies.

The memorandum also opens possibilities for institutions to support the preparation of human resources mutually in areas like clinical trials and quality control.

Other branches in which they could also cooperate are hemovigilance, regulation of health products, pharmaceutical logistics, pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacoeconomics.

The creation of associations for the mutual or unilateral recognition of the parties’ decisions on pharmaceutical regulation and the exchange of information of mutual interest in that field are other possible aspects of the memorandum.
