These companies are obliged to assume responsibility for supporting the US army in spreading the chemical poison during the war in Vietnam in the period 1961-1971, Major General Nguyen Hong Son affirmed.
The Avandv vice chairman reiterated Avandv’s position while speaking at the launch of the program “Accompanying the victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin” in Ho Chi Minh City.
Hong Son recalled that for nearly 20 years the group has repeatedly filed lawsuits before the U.S. Supreme Court over the serious consequences of the spraying of Agent Orange/Dioxin by the U.S. military, however, these lawsuits were rejected three times already.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Vietnam’s claims lacked evidence and merit, the senior official said, noting that to date the U.S. military only carried out environmental detoxification in some badly affected areas, but failed to provide medical care for the victims.
Therefore, he reiterated, the Vietnamese unit has taken steps to sue 37 U.S. chemical companies, forcing them to be held accountable for their crimes for supporting the U.S. military in spreading the poison during the war in Vietnam.
