“More than 10,000 patients in Gaza need medical evacuation. We continue to call for an urgent increase in medical evacuations by all possible means,” he wrote in a post on X.
Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that he was very happy about the transfer to Belgium of four Gazan children suffering from tumors, hearing problems, and respiratory disorders.
He explained that those children were accompanied by 12 family members. He noted that they left the coastal enclave for Egypt before the closure of the Rafah border crossing, which was occupied by the Israeli army on May 7.
In late June, the WHO chief called for “facilitating medical evacuation through all possible routes, including the Rafah and Karem Shalom crossings, to Egypt, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and from there to other countries if necessary.”
