United Arab Emirates and Chile to strengthen economic ties

Abu Dhabi, Jul 29 (Prensa Latina) The President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and his Chilean counterpart, Gabriel Boric, today expressed their interest in increasing bilateral economic and trade ties.

During talks held at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi, the two dignitaries reviewed the progress of relations in various areas, including renewable energy, digital economy, climate action, environmental solutions, infrastructure and other priority areas for development.

A dispatch from the Emirati news agency WAM said the leaders also discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest and prospects for supporting multilateral efforts for global stability, cooperation and development.

Both the UAE and Chile have pioneering projects in the fields of renewable energy, digital economy, sustainability solutions and climate action, and share the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, the host dignitary appreciated.

On Monday, the two states signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, considered a substantial step towards building bridges of cooperation and partnerships with the world’s leading economies and encouraging shared development.

Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan also appreciated the increase in non-oil bilateral trade, whose volume increased by 26 percent from January to April 2024, compared to the same period of the previous year.

For his part, the South American dignitary remarked that Chile is eager to invest in opportunities to build partnerships that will achieve mutual interests in areas such as renewable energies.

The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement supports the goal of tripling non-oil trade by 2030, as well as eliminating barriers to the flow of trade and investment, the WAM report said.
