The wounded are receiving medical care at local hospitals, while the government mobilized a team of Commission officials and security personnel to the area to provide humanitarian assistance.

A warning was issued about the possibility of similar incidents in other regions and the community was urged to exercise extreme caution.

On the other hand, the three-day national mourning decreed by the House of Peoples’ Representatives (Parliament) for the 257 people killed in the landslide that occurred on July 22 in the district of Geze Gofa, Southern Nations and Peoples’ Region, concludes on Monday.

So far 39 people are missing and rescue efforts continue.
