Venezuelan elections begin with 95 percent of tables installed

Caracas, July 28 (Prensa Latina) The president of the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela, Elvis Amoroso, reported that 95 percent of the electoral tables were installed at the start of today's presidential election, in which 10 candidates are competing.

In statements to the national and international press, the CNE head said that at six in the morning local time the tables were opened with one hundred percent of the technicians in each of the polling stations and “so far 95 percent of the tables were constituted.”

We are in the middle of the voting process and we feel deeply proud of the people who responded to the call of the CNE to exercise their absolute will, he said.

Amoroso reiterated that the only requirement to vote this Sunday is “the identity card even if it expired,” and denied the campaign circulating through social networks to use face masks and special clothing, “it is a lie,” he added.

He also attacked a church hierarch who went to a television channel “to tell lies and intrigue, instead of conveying a message of peace and love to the world and to Venezuelans.”

He pointed out that a priest declared that the media were prevented from exercising their functions, entering the press center and counted in this sense 28 media outlets that “are here as in all the days of the development of the electoral schedule.”

“You are witnesses and this high hierarch is a very deceitful person,” he added.

He reaffirmed that in each of the activities carried out before and during the campaign, which ended last Friday after 22 intense days, the national and international media were present.

The president of the Venezuelan Electoral Power denounced that sectors of the extreme right did everything possible so that the people could not cast their vote today, and “the CNE team and the National Armed Forces had to do a lot,” he pointed out.

He revealed that planes carrying the voting machines were confiscated and sent to an African country, “that was done by these gentlemen who do not believe in the Venezuelan people.” They did not want the people to express themselves and have the opportunity to participate with the best electoral system in the world that Venezuela has, he insisted.

Amoroso deeply thanked the Plan República of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces that deployed more than 388 thousand troops throughout the country and participated in the transfer and protection of all electoral logistics.

He said there are 10 candidates, 38 political parties and 1,400 national and international observers who participate in this Sunday´s process.
