Cuba’s patriotic deeds and independence ideal praised in Panama (+Photos)

Panama, Jul 26 (Prensa Latina) Panamanians and Cubans highlighted the Caribbean island's independence ideal on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes garrisons, a patriotic deed that is being commemorated on Friday.

In the Cuban Night, which took place on Thursday at the Mio Panama Hotel, in this capital, Cuban Ambassador Victor Cairo expressed gratitude for the presence of supportive friends, diplomats, Cuban residents, students, local people, lawmakers, social organizations, business people and magistrates to commemorate July 26, 1953, a date that marked the resumption of the struggles, a battle that continues in defense of sovereignty.

Cairo praised the achievements of the triumphant Revolution in 1959 in all spheres, and exemplified that, in the case of sports, in reference to the beginning of the 33rd Olympic Games in Paris, an example is to have athlete Mijain Lopez, a multi world and Olympic champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, from very humble roots, as a result of that social work.

The meeting became a tribute to the friendship and historic ties that connect both peoples, to the unity and resistance shown in the face of adversity, he explained in reference to the constant hostile policies by the United States, particularly the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba for more than six decades.

Also speaking at the commemoration was Roberto León, on behalf of the Marti Association of Cubans Residents in Panama, who recounted the Moncada epic, led by its historic leader, Fidel Castro (1926-2016).
