Speaking about their participation in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Foreign Ministers’ meetings in Laos, the Indian diplomat and the Communist Party of China (CPC) Politburo member discussed the outstanding issues along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) to stabilize and rebuild bilateral relations.
Peace and tranquility along the borders and respect for the LAC region are essential for normal ties, a statement from the Indian Foreign Ministry underlines. According to New Delhi, both sides should fully comply with the relevant bilateral agreements, protocols and understandings reached between the two governments in the past.
At the meeting, Jaishankar stressed the importance of mutual respect, interest and sensitivity for the ties.
Similarly, the two foreign ministers agreed to hold an early meeting of the Working Mechanism on Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Issues (WMCC) to continue discussions.
In Laos, the two ministers also exchanged views on the global and regional situation.
Earlier, Jaishankar and Wang had discussed the border issue in Astana on July 4 this year, the diplomatic source recalled.
