Colombia and Jamaica seek to strengthen bilateral relations

Bogota, Jul 24 (Prensa Latina) The 9th Neighborhood Commission between Colombia and Jamaica is holding its second session, on Wednesday, focused on strengthening the integration and agreement processes.

The delegations of both countries attending the meeting in the archipelago of San Andres, some 1,200 kilometers northwest of this capital, will address strategic issues in economy, trade, science, cooperation, education, culture, sports, and security, the Foreign Ministry informed.

Several sub-commissions were established during the opening of this event. The first was the Sub-Commission on Technical and Scientific Cooperation, which agreed on a joint agenda to strengthen bilateral relations in South-South cooperation, highlighting agriculture, climate change, biodiversity protection, and economic and industrial development, a press release pointed out.

The Sub-Commission on Economic and Commercial Affairs was also met. The delegations discussed the importance of continuing joint work in environmental protection, agriculture, aquaculture, and tourism.

Finally, the Sub-Commission on Security was set up, in which, Colombia and Jamaica committed to work together on this issue to fight transnational crime.

During the opening day of the event led by Colombian Deputy Minister of Multilateral Affairs Elizabeth Taylor, and Ambassador Sheila Sealy, Permanent Secretary at the Jamaican Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, both parties agreed to work together to achieve inclusive and sustainable development with a territorial approach, the Foreign Ministry mentioned.
