This Thursday, the legislative board will start the substantiation phase, that is, the schedule for the presentation of evidence to prosecute the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility.
This process against Sommerfeld was proposed by legislator Jhajaira Urresta, of the Citizen Revolution Movement (RC), after the violent police raid in the Mexican diplomatic headquarters on the night of April 5 to arrest former Vice President Jorge Glas.
According to Urresta, the Ecuadorian State violated a series of constitutional and legal norms and international treaties, and the minister, together with other authorities, were responsible for ensuring relations with Mexico, guaranteeing the peaceful settlement of disputes, without threat or use of force to resolve them.
The parliamentary blocs of the Construye movement and the Social Christian Party (PSC) anticipated this Wednesday that they will not vote in favor of the dismissal and censure of the Chancellor.
“Avoiding the escape of Glas does not deserve impeachment”, Construye announced in a statement, although it recognizes that the Government of Daniel Noboa had other options before invading an embassy.
