Russia rules out participation in new summit on Ukraine

Mijail-Galuzin-1-1
Moscow, Jul 11 (Prensa Latina) Russia will not participate in a new summit of Western countries on Ukraine, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin told Sputnik on Thursday.

According to the diplomat, Russia knows that Kiev and its Western allies plan to hold an event similar to the Summit on Ukraine that took place in Switzerland in mid-June and which, in his opinion, was a failure.

The deputy minister noted that the venue of the event is still unknown, but added that what is important is not the geography, but “the content, with which everything is very clear.”

In this regard, Galuzin pointed out that the Western countries seek to promote the peace formula of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, showing “deliberate ignorance of other initiatives to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.”

Switzerland held a conference on Ukraine on June 15-16, near the city of Lucerne, to which Russian President Vladimir Putin was not invited, nor were the leaders of China, Brazil and India present, although the latter did send official delegations. The final declaration of the summit consisted of three paragraphs and called for returning the Zaporozhie nuclear power plant to Kiev’s control, guaranteeing free navigation in the Black and Azov Seas and releasing all prisoners of war.

According to organizers, some 80 of 100 nations present approved the final document, while several states, including Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Armenia, the United Arab Emirates, India, Libya, as well as the Vatican, did not sign it.

As an alternative, Putin proposed on June 14 to start peace negotiations on the same day, if Ukraine withdraws its troops from the new Russian territories – the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, as well as the Kherson and Zaporozhie regions.

The Russian leader also demanded that Kiev officially reject the plans to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and maintain neutral, non-aligned and non-nuclear status, while all sanctions against Russia should be lifted.
