The decision was made because Ukraine came to the conclusion that the use of two air combat systems at the same time, the F-16 and the Gripen, was too much, the Swedish minister stressed. According to Billström, the decision does not mean that Sweden will not be ready to supply Ukraine with its fighters in the future.
On May 31, Sweden and Ukraine signed a bilateral security agreement involving the transfer of ASC 890 aircraft to Kiev for the Ukrainian air defense system.
According to the document, the Swedish Government also intended to consider supplying JAS 39 Gripen fighters to the Ukrainian armed forces.
