Judge rejects to revert minimum wage rise in Puerto Rico

San Juan, Jul 9 (Prensa Latina) Several business organizations warned on Tuesday that they will appeal the decision by Judge Anthony Cuevas Ramos of the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico that ratified the minimum wage rise.

The judge ruled out on Monday that the Minimum Wage Commission should have a majority to determine that increasing 10.50 dollars per hour is appropriate, as its capacity is limited to making a change by decree.

The law establishes the minimum wage increase effective July 1, 2024.

This increase will benefit about 245,000 workers who earn the minimum wage.

The business groups’ plaintiffs claimed that the commission’s decision on the minimum wage should have had five votes, not the three that ratified it.
