Darfur is one of the regions most affected by the war between the Army and paramilitary groups, according to that organization’s specialists.
Rick Brennan, regional emergency director for the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, based in Cairo, Egypt, described this border access as vital to reach the five states of Darfur, local news agencies reported on Tuesday.
WHO, in turn, asked for the possibility of delivering humanitarian aid to the capital, Khartoum, and the states of Kordofan.
Brennan noted that Sudan is now the country with the world’s most complex internal displacement crisis, with over 10.5 million displaced people, including 1.8 million refugees in neighboring countries.
