Angola National Radio reported that the coordinator of the multidisciplinary team of the Health Ministry, Eusébio Manuel, showed the negative test results of a patient admitted on July 3 at the David Bernardino Camanga General Hospital, in the city of Dundo, in the province of Luanda-Norte.
According to the tests, it is not simian smallpox, but a case of measles associated with rubella.
Since the day the patient was admitted to the health unit, messages on social networks began to spread the information of an alleged case of Mpox in Dundo, something that local authorities immediately denied and called for waiting for the tests to be performed.
The Angolan Health Ministry maintains active the contingency plan to prevent the entry and spread of monkeypox in the national territory, due to the presence of the disease in neighboring countries.
The institution implemented emergency measures to provide a rapid response to eventual patients infected with Mpox, based on an early detection of the disease.
The actions are aimed at identifying persons suspected of having the disease, confirming its presence, following up contacts, evaluating and monitoring the spread and evolution of the epidemic, as well as checking the effectiveness of control measures.
The Health Ministry stated that it remains alert to the advance of the disease in neighboring countries and published a series of recommendations for prevention by the population.
