This position was expressed by Syria’s permanent representative at the United Nations Office in Geneva, Haider Ali Ahmed, during a meeting to hear the results of the Commission’s work.

“The work of (the Commission) has the sole objective of covering up the crimes perpetrated by the aggressors and occupiers, and those parties that support the separatist militias and terrorist groups in Syria,” said the diplomat, who added that the Committee’s reports hid the catastrophic impact of the sanctions imposed by the West, which are a direct and comprehensive war against the human rights and humanitarian needs of all Syrians, and terrorism, which undermines the efforts to achieve security and stability in the country.

The Syrian delegate accused the countries that support the Commission’s work of being involved in the murders and displacements of Syrians.

The official went on to reaffirm that Syria will continue its fight to free its lands from terrorism and regain security and stability, and will work through constructive cooperation with the United Nations and other partners to improve the humanitarian situation of all its citizens and ensure the arrival of humanitarian aid to civilians who require it, even in areas under terrorist control.

“Syria will continue its efforts to strengthen, improve and develop national legislative and institutional frameworks related to human rights in accordance with its international obligations stipulated in International Humanitarian Law,” Ali Ahmad said.

The representative stressed that Syria will collaborate with all countries that believe in international law and the United Nations Charter to defend the true mandate of the Human Rights Council as a platform for dialogue and cooperation based on the principles of impartiality, objectivity and non-selectivity.
