Red Crescent Society says situation in Gaza is catastrophic

Ramallah, Jul 1 (Prensa Latina) The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) warned on Monday that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is catastrophic after 269 days under fire from the Israeli Army.

The organization affirmed on its X profile that almost the entire population of the coastal enclave population is suffering from severe food insecurity.

All crossing points must be opened to ensure a sustained and unhindered flow of humanitarian aid to the territory, the PRCS stated.

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) warned last week that more than two million Palestinians in Gaza are facing a high risk of famine.

FAO quoted the latest report from the global Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) initiative that some 495,000 Palestinians, nearly one-fifth of Gaza’s population, are experiencing catastrophic food insecurity (IPC Phase 5).

UN Women, in turn, estimated that at least 557,000 women in the Gaza Strip are facing severe food insecurity and several gender-based vulnerabilities.
