El Salvador maintains weather alert

San Salvador, Jun 30 (Prensa Latina) Salvadoran Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) maintains the weather alert for the possible intensification of rainfall due to a storm by the end of next week, a report announced on Sunday.

After a fortnight, in which the rainfalls caused havoc, authorities are concerned over a hurricane that in a week would be close to the Salvadoran territory still flooded by rainfalls that added over 100 millimeters in some areas until this Sunday.

Beryl became a “very dangerous” category 3 hurricane, and could be in the western Caribbean with influence over El Salvador.

Local media and authorities say the weather event, which is moving about 675 kilometers east of Barbados in the Atlantic Ocean, will become an “extremely dangerous category 4 hurricane” as it reaches Caribbean communities, citing reports from the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC).

It is the first hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic season, and on Sunday morning, it turned into a “very dangerous” category 3 phenomenon, with winds of more than 180 km/h over the Antilles, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) informed, which warned of potentially deadly winds on some islands.

In El Salvador, a state of national emergency is being kept, while here in the capital after a rainy night, the sky remains clear.
