Agenda 2030 well below expectations at halfway point

United Nations, Jun 28 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations (UN) will launch its report on the status of the 2024 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which confirms that progress for the 2030 Agenda is far below expectations.

The report will be presented by UN secretary general António Guterres, and recognizes progress in areas such as reducing global infant mortality, preventing HIV infection, and access to energy and mobile broadband. However, it critically reviews aspects that demand urgent action such as climate change, threats to peace and security, and the increasingly notable inequalities between countries.

The 2024 Sustainable Development Goals Report is the result of the collaboration of the United Nations with more than 50 international and regional organizations.

The initiative aims to serve as a critical resource by providing the latest data and evidence, to develop recommendations and solutions to advance the 17 goals launched in 2015, when world leaders adopted a set of global goals ranging from ending poverty and hunger, gender equity, or access to equitable health systems, clean water and sanitation or decent work.

The SDGs aim to eradicate poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda.

The UN warns of a delay in achieving strategic goals such as the elimination of hunger and poverty, freedom of expression, the creation of sustainable cities, or the protection of biodiversity on land and water.

Aspects such as low financing, increased geopolitical tensions and the results of the recent Covid-19 pandemic negatively impact most of the Goals.
