The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Organization for Migration are presently working so hard together to strengthen information and education efforts.

UNICEF, in particular, called for comprehensive measures to protect school children and avoid disruptions in the academic calendar as a result of the cholera fresh outbreak which has claimed at least 15 deaths in Lagos.

According to UNICEF, the cholera outbreak severely affected minors and the young population already facing serious health risks while attending school.

“There is a pressing need for good sanitation, hygiene practices, improved access to safe water and regular hand washing with soap and clean water to fight off the outbreak in schools,” said Celine Lafoucrier, UNICEF Representative in the Lagos region.

Lafoucrier urged the promotion of proper awareness across the country to sensitize the population on the danger of the disease and preventive measures as part of efforts to deal with the problem.
