Putin begins visit to DPRK

Moscow, Jun 18 (Prensa Latina) The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, plans to begin a state visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the Kremlin's press service reported.

According to the statement, the Russian president will thus comply with an invitation from the leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Kim Jong Un. This will be his second trip to the DPRK, the first being in 2000, during his first term.

In the note, the Kremlin explains that the state visit will take place over two days, during which both leaders will hold negotiations, and other activities and meetings, such as laying a wreath at the Monument to the Soviet soldiers who liberated Korea in 1945.

The statement also highlights that during the negotiations the leaders plan to discuss in detail the status and prospects of bilateral cooperation, where industrial interrelation will occupy an important place, in addition to the restoration of communications, air, and railway connections, the flow of Russian tourists to the DPRK, cultural and sports exchanges.

Both heads of state will value common approaches to international problems, including the review of the UN Security Council’s indefinite sanctions against the DPRK.

At the end of Putin’s stay in Pyongyang, the Russian president will travel to Vietnam, in a two-day state visit, the Russian presidency stated.
