Both leaders expressed interest in continuing joint work to strengthen the strategic partnership between Russia and South Africa, according to the statement published on the official website of the Russian presidency.
The President of the Russian Federation also congratulated Ramaphosa on his re-election as president of South Africa in the elections on May 29th.
Russia and South Africa are part of the BRICS, the economic bloc that also brings together Brazil, India, China, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia and Iran.
The bloc represents almost half the world’s population, 40 percent of global oil production, and about 25 percent of global exports.
