Reports unfolded that one of the boats was attempting to reach the Italian coast and was located south of the island of Lampedusa, after which over half a hundred people were rescued.

The NGO’s announcement on its social media profiles indicates that 61 migrants were on board a wooden boat filled with water, although its members evacuated 51 of them.

However, 10 corpses were found inside the hold, which was flooded with water.

Meanwhile, the Italian Coast Guard reported the rescue of another 12 migrants aboard a sailboat about 120 nautical miles off the coast of Calabria, in the Ionian Sea, who allegedly set off from Türkiye.

The United Nations (UN) estimated the number of missing at 64, according to a statement issued by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
