There is a lot of official reaction, official statements that are of a non-constructive nature, the spokesperson told reporters in response to the question of whether there was an official reaction from participants of the summit in Switzerland to Putin’s proposal to hold negotiations on the situation in Ukraine.
According to Peskov, “in Switzerland the issue of peace in Ukraine is not addressed, but rather the question of a humanitarian or quasi-humanitarian nature.”
We want to meet next time at a more substantial and promising event dedicated to the conflict in Ukraine, he said. Russia has nothing more to convey to the participants of the summit in Switzerland, he emphasized.
The day before, Putin stated that, to begin peace negotiations, Ukraine must withdraw its troops from the new Russian territories, officially reject plans to join the Euro-Atlantic bloc, and maintain neutral, non-aligned and non-nuclear status, while all sanctions against Russia must be lifted.
Switzerland is holding a conference on Ukraine on June 15 and 16 near the city of Lucerne, in the tourist resort of Burgenstock. The presidents of the United States, China and Brazil will not attend the event.
Switzerland did not invite Russia, but Moscow said it would not participate in any case. According to the Kremlin, it is absolutely illogical and useless to look for options to resolve the Ukrainian conflict without Russia’s participation.
