According to a press release from the Cuban Revolutionary Navy, the vessel belongs to a new series of ships that was recently introduced in the Royal Canadian Navy. Its visit to Cuba highlights bilateral cooperation to contribute to regional peace.
The press release added that its visit will run in the context of the 80th anniversary of uninterrupted diplomatic relations with Canada and the 50th anniversary of cooperation.
Before returning to its port of call in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, the vessel’s stay here will strengthen the long-standing ties between Cuba and Canada, the military institution stated.
The arrival of the HMCS Margaret Brooke follows up the visits paid in 2016 and 2018 by frigates HMCS Fredericton and HMCS Charlottetown, respectively, the Cuban Revolutionary Navy pointed out.
The Canadian sailors will take part in events, including courtesy meetings with the head of the Revolutionary Navy and Havana Governor Yanet Hernandez.
