In a message sent to Prensa Latina’s office in Caracas for the 65th anniversary of the news agency, which will be celebrated on June 16th, the ambassador extended congratulations to the staff of the outlet.

Endara valued that communication is a “transversal element” in the integration process of Latin America and the Caribbean, in which “media outlets play a fundamental role as hinges between public policies and citizens.” He also and stressed that integration is not only a work of regional organizations, governments and citizens, but also “is built by media such as Prensa Latina, which continues to focus on communication for the well-being of our people.”

The SELA’s secretary considered that “it is a favorable moment to recognize their contributions in visualizing the reality of society. Happy 65th anniversary,” he noted.

Prensa Latina was created at the initiative of Fidel Castro (1926-2016), Ernesto Che Guevara and the Argentine journalist Jorge Ricardo Massetti.

On June 16th, 1959, the news agency became the first media outlet on the American continent to offer an alternative to the large information monopolies dominated by the United States.

The objective of SELA is to promote a system of consultation and coordination to agree on common positions and strategies of Latin America and the Caribbean, in economic matters, to promote cooperation and integration.
