In a press release signed by CYF President Weerasumana Weerasinghe and Secretary Jinendra Saman Peiris, the organization condemned Washington’s decision to keep Cuba in the states-sponsor-of-terrorism (SSOT) list.
The CYF of Sri Lanka added that the US decision to place and then maintain Cuba with this categorization serves as a pretext for adopting measures that affect the Cuban people, including the Cuban residents abroad.
The organization pointed out that the punitive measures join those already in place due to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years.
It recalled Washington’s history of invasions, sponsorship, and promotion of violent groups and terrorist practices, such as the economic war against Cuba aimed at overthrowing governments or creating instability in different regions globally.
The Communist Youth Federation of Sri Lanka also reiterated its solidarity with the Cuban Government, youth, and people in their struggle against imperialism, which it described as heroic.
