Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian referred in a press conference to the announcement of the imposition of tariffs by the EU on electric vehicles imported from China, which will ultimately harm Europe’s own interests.

China has stated its position on many occasions regarding the EU’s anti-subsidy investigation on Chinese electric vehicles. The European side uses that mechanism only as an excuse to impose additional tariffs, the spokesman denounced.

Li warned that such action violates the principles of market economy and international trade rules, harms the economic and trade cooperation between China and the EU, as well as the stability of the global automobile production and supply chain.

The Chinese official stressed that protectionism has no future and open cooperation is the right path.

We urge the EU to fulfill its commitment to support free trade and oppose protectionism, and to work with Beijing to safeguard the overall situation of economic and trade cooperation between the parties. China will take all necessary measures to firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests, he concluded.
