Cuba re-elected deputy member of the ILO Governing Body

Havana, June 7 (Prensa Latina) Cuba was re-elected Deputy Member of the Board of Directors of the International Labor Organization (ILO), the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez, reported today.

In a message broadcast on his X account, the chancellor highlighted that by adding 193 votes, the Antillean nation was the country in Latin America and the Caribbean that achieved the greatest support for such a designation.

This membership is a recognition of Cuba’s commitment to labor and union rights, Rodríguez noted, and highlighted that as a member of the executive body of the ILO, he will actively participate in the organization’s decisions and policies.

Elected for a three-year term, the Governing Body of ILO acts as the executive secretary of that organization, makes decisions for the execution of its policies, elects the Director-General, and presents the Program and Budget to the International Labor Conference.

On June 14, 2021, Cuba had been elected deputy member of that body with 214 votes, in the context of the 109th International Labor Conference that met virtually.
