Experts warn about increase in flu, typhoid and dengue fever cases

San Salvador, Jun 7 (Prensa Latina) Officials and epidemiologists in El Salvador on Friday warned about the increase in cases of flu, typhoid fever and dengue fever in recent weeks.

The president of the Salvadoran Medical Association, Dr. Iván Solano, cited reports from the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) on the increase in respiratory diseases in the region, described as epidemic outbreaks.

Solano and epidemiologist Jorge Panameño called on their compatriots to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, boil drinking water and maintain measures to prevent contagions.

The doctors said that in the last few days, they have observed the circulation of A H3N2 and A H1N1 influenza, and demanded more information from authorities about public health risks, something they considered “an important tool” for prevention and combat.

Panameño warned about the increase in dengue cases, something noticeable since the beginning of the year, although authorities indicate that the parameters remain under control.

He assured that there is an increase in cases of diarrhea, especially typhoid fever.

“At this time, we think that we are behind because we sounded an alarm in February and we have not perceived a positive attitude in terms of prevention and especially in terms of health education.”
