Both nations have entered a new cycle of strategic cooperation characterized by strong convergence on global issues, ranging from the defense of multilateralism to sustainable development, peace, and security.

Alckmin and his Chinese counterpart, Han Zheng, presided over the seventh meeting of the China-Brazil High-Level Committee in Coordination and Cooperation on Thursday, which, according to the visitor, reflects the bilateral commitment to further deepen ties.

The comprehensive strategic partnership established in 2012, between Brazil and China, “has generated important opportunities for both countries and strengthens the developing world on the international stage,” Alckmin said. “There is unlimited potential for cooperation between the two countries in terms of investment, trade, technology, and innovation, and it is important to continue seeking synergies between the main initiatives of each country,” Alckmin stressed in statements to the Xinhua news agency.

The Brazilian Vice President also praised what he considered an “impressive expansion” of bilateral trade and pointed out that China has been Brazil’s main partner since 2009, with transactions that reached 150 billion dollars last year.

“Thinking about the challenges of Brazil’s new industrialization and ecological transformation, I foresee many opportunities for cooperation,” Alckmin noted, recalling that China is the fifth-largest investor in Brazil and has a strong presence in the energy, information technology, agroindustry and industry.

He explained that the New Brazilian Industry program seeks to promote highly sophisticated productive and technological associations, in fields such as semiconductors, bio-innovation, information technologies, digital economy, and sustainable energy sources.

Alckmin stated that diplomatic relations between China and Brazil have been able to adapt to changes in the economy and international scenario with mutual benefits and development, “which will be the axis of the next half-century. (…) I believe that the evolution of bilateral ties will continue to be guided by respect for mutual values, friendship between peoples, cultural exchanges, and the notion of a shared future,” he said.
