St. Petersburg Economic Forum begins

Saint Petersburg, Russia, Jun 5 (Prensa Latina) The 27th edition of the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), which has more than 20 years of history and is consolidated as one of the most important business events in Russia, was inaugurated on June 5th and will run until the 8th, with the participation of more than 17 thousand people from 130 countries.

The event organizers declared: “Over 27 years, the Forum has the status of a dominant international platform to discuss key issues of the global economy, establishing cooperative links and exchanging the world’s best practices and competencies ensuring sustainable development.”

In statements to the press before the start of the event, the vice president and executive secretary of the SPIEF Organizing Committee, Anton Kobyakov, described the forum as a platform that opens debates at the highest levels, decisions, and initiatives in all spheres of public life.

“The Forum is more valid than ever, and it is because the crisis of confidence between countries increased in a year, and in these circumstances, it is important especially to maintain a constructive dialogue between business sectors from different parts of the world,” said Kobyakov, who is also an advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The functionary added that the creation of this negotiation platform is Russia’s response to the thousands of sanctions imposed by the United States and the countries in its orbit aimed at fracturing the Russian economy.

The main theme of this year’s economic conference is titled “The basis of a multipolar world. Formation of new growth points.”

Kobyakov assured that “stability and justice in a multipolar world are only possible if new centers of influence emerge, capable of offering their own vision of world problems and participating in forming a new world order.”

The SPIEF official program contains more than 150 thematic online sessions, with four main areas: transition to a multipolar model of the global economy; the economy of Russia: objectives and tasks of the new cycle; technologies at the service of leadership; and a healthy society, traditional values, and social development as priorities of the State.

The part of the Forum dedicated to international cooperation has the formats of dialogues between Russia and Latin America, Africa, China, and South Africa, as well as between the Eurasian Economic Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
