The fungus, called Parengyodontium album, is a microbe that joins the list of plastic-degrading marine fungi. Only four species have been found to date.
According to the article, the researchers went to find the plastics degrading microbes in the hotspots of plastic pollution in the North Pacific Ocean.
In the authors’ opinion, this marine fungus could be a perfect weapon against the excess of plastic, one of the most used materials in the current world.
