Peru and Mexico maintain diplomatic relations at the level of Chargé d’Affaires due to political disagreements over the removal of former Peruvian President Pedro Castillo from office in December 2022.

Mexico’s first female president won a landslide victory with approximately 60% of the ballots, more than double that of the second-place candidate, Xochitl Galvez, and during her campaign she pledged to continue the policies of the current President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
