About 100 million citizens are electing more than 20,000 positions, including the first female president, 500 lawmakers, 128 senators, and nine governors, including that of this capital.
More than 27,000 Armed Forces and National Guard members are reinforcing the National Public Security Strategy, made up of 233,543 elements, to guarantee a peaceful environment during the elections, Secretary of the Navy Jose Rafael Ojeda informed.
This election has attracted the most attention from observer missions and foreign visitors, according to statistics from the National Electoral Institute published by La Jornada newspaper, which stated that more than 1,300 representatives from 63 countries, most of them from the Americas, are participating.
All polls taken in recent months show Claudia Sheinbaum, a candidate from the Sigamos Haciendo Historia (Let’s Continue Making History) coalition, as the winner in the election, with a wide lead over her closest opponent, Xochitl Galvez.
One of the latest polls, published by El Economista before the political campaigning halted, predicted that Sheinbaum would reach the Presidency with 56.9 percent of votes, surpassing Galvez with 25.7 points and Jorge Alvarez Maynez, from the Movimiento Ciudadano (Citizen’s Movement) party, with 11.9 percent, in a distant third place.
If predictions come true, the candidate of the coalition formed by the National Regeneration Movement (MORENA), the Labor Party (PT), and the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM) would succeed President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador as the first female president of Mexico.
Sheinbaum’s project is to continue the path laid by Lopez Obrador.
