Despite the establishment of the Loss and Damage Fund to compensate for the impacts of climate change in island countries, 90% of the financing has gone to industrialized countries, Rodriguez posted on X.
It is urgent that these nations take historical accountability and meet their climate commitments, the FM added.
Rodriguez’s exhortation comes on the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States, held from May 27 to 30 in Antigua and Barbuda.
According to data showed at the event, those States are more exposed than others to drought, desertification, hurricanes, storms, floods and other extreme meteorological phenomena, which cause great damage.
For Cuba, it is an urgent need for developed countries to support efforts to finance strategies adopted to face and deplete the effects of the climate crisis.
