Sixteen Houthis killed in US attack in Yemen

Aden, Yemen, May 31 (Prensa Latina) The Houthi rebels of the Ansar Allah movement confirmed on Friday that joint air strikes by the United Kingdom and the United States on their territory resulted in 16 people killed and 42 wounded.

The Al Masirah Television Channel, the voice of the Ansar Allah movement, reported that the attacks, which were perpetrated on Thursday, hit the building that houses Radio Hodeida and civilian homes in that city, as well as areas surrounding Sana’a, the capital.

Al Masirah also broadcast images of wounded civilians being evacuated, and others already in hospitals.

US sources said that the attack had hit missile launchers, command posts and a ship.

They added that the fighter jets involved in the operation took off from the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower aircraft carrier in the Red Sea.

In response to the bombing of civilian cities, the Houthis said on Friday that they will intensify their attacks on ships sailing off from the coast of Yemen and bound for Israeli ports.

Al Masirah noted that US and British forces carried out 13 air strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Al Hodeida, Sana’a and Taiz, a city in southwestern Yemen.

Since last November 19, the Houthi rebels grouped in the Ansar Allah movement have proclaimed their decision to attack ships linked to Israel in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, in response to Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip.

The Houthis control northern Yemen, including the capital, after taking up arms against the government in 2014, an event that sparked a civil war, which continues at present. jg/abo/mem/fvt
